Here we are at the start of an adventure. Day 1. The beginning of 4 months travelling through Europe, a culmination of a years worth of planning and who knows how many hours spent day dreaming.
As I sit, waiting for our flight I’m reminded of all the friends and family that have rallied behind us with, well wishes, support and all round revelry. It’s kind of like a nice warm metaphorical hug that continues on even after we’ve said goodbye.
But it’s not really goodbye is it? We’re up to our ears in camera equipment and we’re determined to use it! We’ll be posting all manner of things to share our journey with you – starting with this blog.
So how’re we going so far? Somehow we’ve already managed to lose an expensive drink bottle lid through security. but not to worry, ever resourceful, we have macgyvered ourselves a new lid which amuses me greatly.
That’s how it is with travel: consistent little challenges! Challenges that push you out of your comfort zone and remind you that you’re a fallible human, prone to the most simple of mistakes but also that it doesn’t matter. If I’m honest, I was a little bit scared to leave my bubble. The cost, the risks, my home, my career; all of these things weighed on my mind. But wait! At the end of the day… what is life for?
I don’t really know, but my guess is, the more I see and the more I experience the closer I’ll be to figuring it out. Here’s to “giving it a go!” and embracing the explorer mindset. To taking risks and appreciating the good fortune and grace of the world that gave me this opportunity.
Last but not least: We all love a good plane window photo but I have to say, the ones we managed to get this time were quite unique! Here are some beautiful aerial shots of Lake Tyrell, the outback and Singapore’s bustling maritime port which we later learned is currently the world’s second-busiest port!

Amazing 💯…4 Months 💃🕺🏼
😍 So excited!
So relate to your concerns re home career. I was offered a great job but we were off on our European odyssey in 2 weeks. I cried when I got on that plane thinking of all I was giving up. What I quickly learned is I gained so much from my travels, it broadened my mind, challenged my resilience and was totally fabulous. Have never lost the bug. Guess what … my CV looked so much better with experience I got travelling. Got an equally great but different job when I got home. Go while you are young & fit … spread your wings & fly into all the world has to offer. Love to you both.
Thank you Maria! ❤️ So lovely to hear you experienced something similar. I am excited to grow and learn from these travels like you were able to. I’m already having a ball!
Great to see that you are on your way, Beth. Looking forward to meeting you and Jesse in London. Will Yoshi also be joining us that evening? I do hope so.
Jesse wouldn’t go anywhere without Yoshi! And so, Yoshi will indeed be joining us on our night about town. 😂 Looking forward to it Ian
What an adventure and enjoy every minute of it. We look forward to seeing your comments in the coming months. Stay safe and have fun together.
Thank you Derek & Annette! So happy to be able to share our stories with you ❤️
