Oh no! Today is the day that we have to leave Singapore. And usually there’d be nothing much to write about on a travel day however Singapore Airport defies logic. But we’ll get to that.
It’s early morning, and we’re keen to catch one last glimpse of Merlion (my latest obsession). Much to our surprise, we’ve been outpaced by a large scale film crew & minions; seemingly shooting some sort of commercial. As the minions bounded around with gleeful little prances, gesticulating to the beauty around them I thought, “yeah, I agree little minions… I agree!”, and with one last wistful sigh we made our way.

With our backpacks now in tow, we lumbered en route to Changi Airport. And with much relief, we deposited those cumbersome loads into a secure locker, free to explore without a care for 8 hours!
“Do you really need 8 hours”- You might ask? Well, if you fancy being dazzled, I’d urge you to make the time. Walking to the centre piece of “The Jewel” is like walking through a portal to the future. If I wasn’t seeing it with my own eyes, I might have thought it was AI generated. The intrigue begins as you walk through a spacious chamber freckled with Bamboo shoots. From there, emotions build as the chamber makes way for your first sight into a 10 storey high glass encased terrarium doughnut with the inner hole being a water fall. But wait, I’m not finished, there’s also a sleek white sky rail passing through. Awe! Just awe! We stood there for a while, periodically looking back at each other, communicating with only just our facial expressions: “wow, are you seeing what I’m seeing!?”.

This peaceful interlude was a welcome break from the morning logistics and gave us the strength to continue! Strength to walk the entire length of the sundry of shops layered around the centrepiece. Some shops made me wish we had more than a millimeter of space left in our back backs, others were quite comical. I mean, who buys a set of golf clubs on their way into a flight?
Still pondering that whimsical question, we thought we might take a ride on the skyrail. Cameras poised for that short moment when we’d pass through the Jewel (or the doughnut if you prefer my description)… and… disappointment. You see, it’d been raining quite heavily and a combination of condensation, tinted windows and rain droplets had us beat! I’m sure the view is usually lovely but this time we could only see a dull blur! It was over so quickly, kind of like whiplash and we had to just laugh. Next!

There are a bunch of paid activities at Changi, you could even take a cooking class if you really want! However by the end of the 8 hours the only activity we were really interested in was: sleep!
And thus begins the more boring details relating to all the drudgery of airport shenanigans. One notable mention however, was the lovely gentleman sitting beside us who had unfortunate experience of his red wine being yeeted all over him after the passenger in front decided to fling their chair back and forth. Jesse managed to catch the cup before it did even more damage spurring a bonding moment and creating an airplane friend, a much needed distraction from the long 14 hours we spent in the air!
